Ugandan Film “The School Influencer” Promotes Responsible Digital Living

In an era where a single post can create overnight fame or change a young person’s future forever, Janan Secondary School is set to release The School Influencer, a powerful Ugandan film that explores the realities of growing up in a digital-first generation.

Blending entertainment with education, the film tells a compelling story of ambition, friendship, peer pressure and the pursuit of online fame. It shines a spotlight on the challenges many students face as they navigate social media while balancing school, family expectations and personal aspirations.

The story follows Nadra, a bright and ambitious boarding school student whose secret life as a fast-rising social media influencer begins to open doors she never imagined. As opportunities, attention and popularity grow, so do the pressures that come with them.

What initially appears to be an exciting journey soon becomes a difficult lesson about trust, responsibility and the consequences of chasing influence without understanding its true cost.

Inspired by everyday experiences of young people across Uganda, The School Influencer seeks to spark honest conversations about digital citizenship, online safety and the importance of making responsible choices in an increasingly connected world.

Rather than portraying social media as the problem, the film encourages young people to harness its opportunities while remaining grounded in values, education and personal integrity.

Mr. Kironde, Director of Janan Secondary School, said the production reflects the school’s commitment to preparing learners for life beyond the classroom.

“Education today goes beyond books and examinations. Our learners are growing up in a digital world filled with incredible opportunities and equally significant risks. Through this film, we want to inspire young people to think critically, act responsibly and understand that true influence is built through character, purpose and positive impact.”

Following its premiere, The School Influencer will form the centrepiece of a nationwide school outreach programme featuring screenings and interactive discussions with students, parents and educators.

The campaign will address key issues including responsible social media use, cyber safety, peer influence, mental well-being and maintaining a healthy balance between digital life and academic success.

More than a film, The School Influencer is a call for families, schools and communities to work together in raising a generation that is confident, digitally responsible and equipped to thrive in an ever-changing world.

With its relatable characters, gripping storyline and timely message, the film promises to entertain, educate and inspire audiences of all ages.
