Tooro Kingdom has cautioned journalists, photographers and content creators against insensitive coverage of the funeral proceedings of the late Omukama of Tooro, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
The warning follows public concern over the handling and publication of private moments involving members of the royal family and people close to the late king during the mourning period. In a statement dated September 3, 2026, the kingdom urged all media practitioners covering the funeral to respect the privacy and dignity of the royal family.
The kingdom has appointed the Uganda Media Centre (UMC) to coordinate and control official media coverage from the arrival of King Oyo’s body in Uganda on September 4 until his burial in Fort Portal on September 12.
“The Kingdom therefore calls upon all media houses, journalists, photographers and content creators covering the funeral proceedings to work within the established media coordination arrangements and to respect the privacy of the Royal Family and those closest to His Majesty as they mourn,” the statement reads.
Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire said the Uganda Media Centre will coordinate official live broadcasts, photography and video production throughout the funeral programme. The arrangement is intended to ensure that the public receives official updates while protecting sensitive moments involving the royal family and mourners.
King Oyo’s body is expected to arrive at Entebbe International Airport on Friday, September 4, before being transported to Tooro for a series of funeral rites leading up to his burial at Karuziika Palace in Fort Portal on September 12.
