Brighton Ahereza, better known as Mr Very Good, has always wanted to be famous. Even as a child, he dreamed of being known and entertaining people. He just did not know how he would get there. Then TikTok came along.
For Ahereza, the platform offered an opportunity to put himself out there without needing a big production team or a major media platform. All he needed was his phone, his ideas and the confidence to create.
“I have always wanted to be famous since I was a kid,” he says.
His TikTok journey has since turned him into a familiar face among users, especially in Western Uganda. His videos are largely built around comedy and the kind of simple, casual humour that people can easily relate to.
He says his style was also shaped by watching other TikTok creators who started with very little but eventually built big names for themselves. Among those he looks up to are Jose Chakala and Mickey Seems2Funny.
But the journey has not always been smooth.
Ahereza says he has had to deal with people reporting his content and others trying to access his TikTok account. At some point, protecting his account became just as important as creating content. He responded by enabling two-step verification, using a stronger password and appealing to TikTok whenever he faced problems.
Then came the phrase that has become closely associated with him—Very Good.
What began as his personal slogan has caught on among people in his region. Today, the phrase is sometimes used when someone does something well or simply when people want to acknowledge something positively.
For Ahereza, seeing people use the phrase outside his videos is a sign that his content is reaching beyond the screen.
Interestingly, the person behind the funny videos has a very different professional life.
Ahereza is an engineer by profession and works with LATO Milk. When he is not working or making TikToks, he enjoys swimming.
He says people who meet him in person are often surprised because the person they see on TikTok is not quite the same person they meet in everyday life.
On social media, he is the casual and playful Mr Very Good. Away from the camera, he is a professional focused on his career.
For now, Ahereza is determined to see how far his comedy can take him.
His bigger dream is to become one of Uganda’s top TikTok comedians, while putting Western Uganda on the entertainment map. He also wants to use his platform to speak for people who may not have a voice and encourage young people to believe in themselves.
It is still early days, but for a young man who grew up dreaming of being famous, TikTok has given Ahereza n a place to start.
And judging by the way “Very Good” is catching on, people are beginning to take notice.
