Tracy Melon has criticized individuals who use artificial intelligence to recreate artists’ songs and upload the AI-generated versions to music streaming platforms, describing the practice as unfair to musicians who invest time, money and effort into their craft.
Speaking about the growing use of AI in music, Tracy urged those behind the AI versions to remove them, arguing that artists spend considerable effort recording their original music before releasing it to the public.
“Remove our music from AI versions. We put in a lot of effort to do music, then someone releases an AI version,” Tracy said.
The singer questioned why artists would continue investing in studio sessions if their voices and songs can simply be replicated using AI. She explained that recording music requires artists to physically go into the studio, use their voices and endure the demands of the recording process.
“Otherwise, if I didn’t want to, I would just go to the computer, put in the lyrics and let AI sing. But I go to the studio and voice, strain my voice, and then I wake up the following morning and find the AI version having more views than the original version,” she added.
Tracy’s concerns come amid growing debates in the music industry over the use of artificial intelligence to replicate artists’ voices, recreate songs and generate music that can sometimes attract significant attention online. She believes such practices undermine the work of original artists, especially when AI-generated versions outperform the authentic recordings.
“You’ve got to get serious, guys,” she concluded, calling for greater respect for musicians and their original work.
